Knitted Kalevala II continues Jenna Kostet’s exploration into the world of mythology, tradition, and stories. It follows in the footsteps of the immensely popular knitting book published in 2022, captivating both knitters and those interested in folklore.
The book contains 20 stranded knitting patterns inspired by the poems of the Kalevala. The diverse collection includes not only sweaters and cardigans but also accessories. In addition to classic yoke sweaters, the garments utilize various styles and constructions. The stories of the poems come to life in the stranded colorwork motifs found on yokes, hems, and sleeves – all knitted with only two colors at a time.
“All knitters are likely in agreement that crafting increases happiness. Even though we are not rune singers, we are part of the endless chain of tradition.” – Jenna Kostet
Jenna Kostet is an author and knitwear designer known for several hit patterns, such as the Suolaulu sweater. She has studied ethnology and folklore at the University of Turku and has published several historical novels and children’s books.
