Responsibly produced natural Finnish yarns from Vuonue!

In Vuonue's selection, you'll find both 100% wool yarns and yarns reinforced with wood fiber Tencel, in various thicknesses. All the wool in Vuonue yarns is Finnish, primarily from Finnsheep and Kainuu Grey sheep. None of Vuonue's yarns have a superwash treatment.

Vuonue yarns originated from the wool of the farm's own sheep, but as production grew, wool from many other farms is also used. Not all domestic wool ends up being used; some sheep farms still have to dispose of their wool. Finnish sheep farms are small by global standards, and sheep care is of a good and supervised standard. Finnish wool yarn is an ecological choice, which is why we want to promote its wider use. By using Finnish materials and labor as much as possible, the origin and conditions remain easily traceable.

Quick guide to substituting yarn in a pattern with Vuonue's domestic wool yarns

Wilhelmi and Elsa = all with fingering weight yarn (100g = approx. 400m)

Pentti and Tilta = all with DK weight yarn (100g = approx. 230m)

Manta, Onneli and Usko = for Icelandic sweaters to substitute Lettlopi or all with Aran/Worsted weight yarn (100g = approx. 180-200m)

Unelma = for Icelandic sweaters to substitute Alafosslopi or all with Bulky/Chunky weight yarn (100g = approx. 120m)
